Anyways I just subscribed to this channel for a few reasons, one is because of the understanding and actually caring for what happened that day, the high level of respect for us across the pond. Jimmy Driftwood was a school teacher in Timbo, Arkansas. Back in the 1930's he wrote the Battle of New Orleans to help his students remember the events of the war of 1812. This was not the war of American independence, but came about because of British blockades and impressments of American sailors into the British navy during the Napoleonic wars. The Battle of New Orleans was a worthless battle, fought more than two weeks after the peace treaty had been signed in Europe. If communication were faster back then, the battle would not have been fought. I encourage you to listen to Driftwood's version of the song - it has more verses and a real "authentic" sound to it.

I'm a 3rd generation American. My great GrandFather Johnstone came to America from Scotland along with 4 of his Brothers. Unfortunately, he passed away before I was born, but the stories of their journey to America via Canada and who he was as a Father and GrandFather will live on generation to generation. We hope to visit Scotland someday and learn more about his homeland.

Historical Note: The "War of 1812" ended before the battle of New Orleans. Sadly, that news never reach the forces fighting there, until AFTER the battle.
